Review:
I found this one to be a very interesting, and adventurous film, the
premise is a bit stretched, about Arabs sending an ambassador to he
Vikings, but it worked having the young hero out of his element to
fight side by side with the barbarians and discover more about himself
with them than he did in a lifetime among his own people. What i
appreciated was that the film makers did show the Vikings in all their
intense glory, but not as the unthinking blood lusting raiders many do
portray them as. More so, the film highlights the complex simplicity of
the life these hard fighting men lead. Honor codes clash, fighting
styles contrast, loyalties compare, and the whole thing comes together
in a wash of war when men face off against legend and myth to save the
lives of the innocent against an invading force. The violence is
intense, being Vikings fighting far more barbaric forces, but the whole
thing is done without splattering gore or sadism. The mysterious
invaders are scary and will frighten littles, but the battle scenes and
rest of it should not turn off too many older kids. |
Plot: Antonio Banderas plays as the unlucky Arab poet,
chosen to be an ambassador to the Vikings of the north after he is
discovered to be in love with the wrong woman. Now he must face
cultural
walls, and an invading force that is destroying Viking villages with
the apparent ease of the mythical fire wyrms. Banderas is lead on an
adventure seeking to save the villages from this force, after a witch
doctor prophesies him to be the necessary 13th warrior needed to
defeat the power being brought against the villages of the Norsemen.
