Review: OK,
Take every fairy tale you heard in your youth, add a couple, throw
those, a couple con artists and the French occupation of Germany during
the 1700's into a sack, throw it against the wall then hit it with a
large halibut. What you get is Brothers Grimm. I had a lot of fun
watching this show, and that had nothing to do with the fact that one
of my kids share his name with Heath Ledger's character. The sibling
interactions, the subtle humor, as well as the overt humor, and the
overall theme of the movie made it a must see for me, and i was not
disappointed. I would definitely not recommend this for young kids who
scare easily, for there are a LOT of images to frighten the easily
spooked, and some just plain weird. Yes there is some mild violence as
this is a story about two guys vanquishing spooks, haunts, and such,
all set in a land during a military occupation in the 1700's, but
nothing overly bloody or gross in this department, save two severed
heads in a box. The monsters are fantastic and scary as any fable can
be, and the bad guys are bad, if bumbling. The worst of the language is
in French and German, but that is the least of your worries if your
deciding whether to take a child under 12 to see this show.
Over twelves should have no difficulty with the content.
“Trust the toad!” and consider this one for a good
couple hours of fun entertainment. Ribbit.
