Review: I think this is an interesting take on the classic story of War of the Worlds, but it lacks some of the intensity of the original. Whether this is because we have become jaded to space invasion movies, or science fiction in general, i do not know. The effects were spectacular, the alien machines monstrous and unstoppable. Instead of a story about world unity defeating the undefeatable, this story focuses on one man and his desperate struggle to just survive, not win or even resist the onslaught, but to get his children someplace safe. Like the original it is told from one man's perspective, but this time it's a common man trying to survive, not a scientist trying to save the planet. Those that have seen the original version will see wide differences and many parallels to this one. Effects wise, this one far outstrips the older version, but i think it also lacks some of the punch the first did so many years ago. Consider carefully when thinking about whether to take the littles, blood thirsty killing machines galore, and some gruesome imagery might frighten them. Other than that, not much that older kids can't handle.
